Washington returns exceptional rushers Bralen Trice and Zion Tupuola-Fetui in 2023.
But this time next year, reinforcements will be needed.
They likely won’t come from 2024 three-star Jaxson Jones, who called off his Husky engagement on Monday.
“After careful REVIEW, my family and I have decided to disengage from the University of Washington,” Jones tweeted Monday night. “My recruitment is now 100% open.”
Jones — a 6-foot-3, 215-pound advantage from Yuma, Arizona — initially signed on after watching the Huskies’ home win over Michigan State on Sept. 17. He also got offers from Arizona State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Northern Arizona, Oregon, San Diego State, San Diego State. Jose, UNLV, USC and Utah.
Standing out at Yuma Catholic High School, Jones is ranked a three-star rookie, No. 8 player at Arizona State and No. 19 in the Class of 2024 by 247Sports. He recorded 87 tackles, 17 sacks, three fumble recoveries, three receiving touchdowns and two blocked kicks in 11 games as a junior in 2022.
Washington, meanwhile, is keeping commitments for a pair of 2024 three-star prospects in quarterback EJ Caminong and athlete Landon Bell. They also offered a total of seven peak rushers.
But the pursuit of the passing rush continues.
